CERTIFICATION QUESTIONS

How many attempts will I have to pass the online exam?
You are allowed two attempts to pass the exam. After that, a $50 retest fee applies for each additional attempt.
How can I access my Spinning® Instructor Certificate?
Once you have completed the Certification course and passed the online exam, you will be able to download your certificate through your SpinU account certifications tab.
I got certified a long time ago and don't have a SpinU account. How can I get a copy of my certificate?
Please email education@spinning.com with your full name and certification date. We'll resend your certificate.
As an employer, how can I verify that an instructor's certification is current?
Please have the instructor email us at education@spinning.com with permission to release their information to you.
How do I become a Level 2 (Advanced) or a Level 3 (Elite) certified Spinning® Instructor?
When you earn your first Spinning® Instructor Certification, you will have Level 1 status. When you complete a subsequent certification, you will advance to the next level. Read all about the different certifications.
What is the difference between Spinning® Instructor Certification and SPIN® membership?
Spinning® Instructor Certification is the credential you earn after completing a Spinning® Instructor Certification course. This certification is valid for two years.

SPIN® membership is an annual benefits program. SPIN® gives you ready-made class playlists and profiles, continuing education, video resources and a subscription to the Spinning® Indoor Cycling app all for one low membership fee.
Why is the virtual course only 4 hours while the in-person course is 9 hours?
The virtual training is shorter than the in-person training because for the 4-hour virtual Zoom portion, the Master Instructor will present key lessons like safety and bike setup, form and technique, heart rate training, basic power-based training, class design and presenting skills. After that, the attendees complete rides and other lessons with online videos in their own time.

Altogether, the amount of course time, the course content, and the certification that's achieved are the same for all three formats: in-person, virtual and online.
How can I find out if there is a certification course near me?
Visit the Find a Training page to view available training dates offered in-person and virtually.  Don't want to wait? You can also sign up for an Online Certification to start right away and complete the course on your own schedule. To stay in the know for future dates and special offers, sign up to receive Spinning education emails.
What materials are included in the course?
Your learning experience will include the instructor manual, videos, reading assignments, quizzes and practice activities all designed to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to start creating and leading classes.

You'll need access to a bike for the rides, but if you don't have one at home, you have the flexibility to complete all the coursework and the exam first. The on-the-bike portion can be completed afterward. A heart rate monitor is also strongly recommended.
Do I need a bike to take an online or virtual certification course?
A bike is not required—but it's helpful. You'll get the most out of the course if you have access to a Spinner® bike, especially for learning setup and riding technique. But you can still complete the course by watching the videos and completing the learning activities and then complete the on-the-bike portions when you have access to a bike.
Is the certification valid outside of my home state or country?
Yes, the Spinning® Instructor Certification is globally recognized, so you can teach at any Official Spinning® Facility on the planet! However, should you relocate or decide to teach in a different country, be mindful to research the local government and health ministry regulations to determine if any additional certification requirements are needed.

CONTINUING EDUCATION QUESTIONS

What continuing education options are available?
Spinning® offers a wide range of courses, from power training and rhythm riding to stage presence and coaching skills. These courses award 1-5 CECs each. You can also take a specialty certification to earn all 14 CECs.  Browse all Online Course options or view the schedule for upcoming Live and Virtual trainings.
How many CECs do I need to renew my certification?
You need 14 SPIN® CECs every 2 years to maintain your instructor certification. That's typically 4–5 short courses, or one specialty training like SPINPower® or Rockstar.
If I earn more than 14 CECs in a two-year period, do my CECs roll over?
No, CECs do not carry over into the next renewal period. They are valid only during the certification period in which they were earned.
Where can I view and track my CECs?
Log in to your SpinU account to view your course history and how many CECs you've earned. You'll also see how many are needed before your next renewal.

What happens if my Spinning® certification expires? Do I need to renew it?

Renewing your Spinning® certification ensures that you're staying current with the latest science, safety standards, and teaching techniques that define the Spinning® program. Employers often look for instructors who are actively certified and engaged in ongoing professional development. While teaching with an expired certification is ultimately up to your employer, maintaining your certification signals your dedication to delivering the best and safest ride experience possible.

Do Spinning® courses award credits for ACE, AFAA and NASM?

Yes, all Spinning® certification courses and most continuing education courses are approved by ACE, AFAA, and NASM for continuing education credit. The main exception is the 1-credit courses, which do not award external CECs. Our course descriptions list the number of CECs awarded by each organization.

Can I earn SPIN® CECs for continuing education through other organizations?
Yes, you can petition to receive credit for workshops and courses completed through other educational organizations for a small fee. The course content must be directly applicable to your role as a Spinning® Instructor, and the course instructor must be qualified in the topic of the course. Petitioned courses must be earned within your renewal period, and you cannot submit the same course more than once within a single renewal period. To get started, go to the Petitions page on SpinU.
What is the difference between certification renewal and the Recertification Course?
Certification renewal is required every two years. You become eligible to renew once you have accumulated 14 Current SPIN® CECs during that renewal period. When you renew, you will receive an updated Spinning® Instructor Certificate.

The
Recertification course is an option for those who have not earned enough CECs to renew or have let their certification lapse. It's a comprehensive online course that provides all 14 CECs needed for renewal. Upon successful completion of the course and the exam, your Spinning® Instructor Certification will be renewed for two years from the date you passed the Recertification exam.
